Persephone & Hades Enamel Pin – Greek Mythology Collection

Our Greek Mythology enamel pin collection takes inspiration from the gods, goddesses, heroes, and icons of ancient Greece.

This shiny gold enamel pin symbolises the kidnap of Persephone, daughter of Zeus and Demeter, by Hades, god of the underworld.

Demeter, who is the goddess of the harvest, is grief stricken at her daughter’s disappearance which causes the crops and plants on earth to die. Zeus intervenes and commands Hades to return Persephone. Reluctant to release her, Hades tricks Persephone into eating some pomegranate seeds, the food of the dead. As a result, she can spend only six months out of the year with her mother; the other six months she is destined to spend in the underworld with Hades. In Greek Mythology, the return of Persephone from the underworld symbolised the return of life in the spring.
